On Thursday, alarming footage emerged from off the coast of Singapore, depicting a large cargo ship colliding with a smaller fishing vessel. The video, captured by fishermen on the Chinese fishing boat Luqing Yuanyu 108, shows the Panamanian-flagged cargo ship, First Margaux, speeding toward the trawler and attempting to alter its course to avoid the impending crash.
Despite the cargo ship’s evasive action, it was unable to avert the disaster. Moments later, the First Margaux struck the stern of the Luqing Yuanyu 108, resulting in a significant impact that caused the fishing vessel to capsize and tilt dramatically to the left. The crew members worked desperately to remain above water and manage the chaotic situation. According to maritime traffic data, this incident took place in a busy anchorage area, complicating navigation and avoidance maneuvers.
Reports indicate that the First Margaux was traveling at a speed of 2-3 knots faster than the fishing vessel at the time of the collision, which occurred around 9:00 AM. The collision impacted the starboard stern of the Luqing Yuanyu 108, causing it to roll but fortunately not sink. At the time of the report, there were no confirmed injuries among the crew of the fishing vessel.
