Spliethoff Group has inaugurated its state-of-the-art training simulator at its Amsterdam headquarters. This advanced facility, developed in collaboration with the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN), allows seafarers to engage in complex cargo, heavy-lift, and ballast operations within a safe and realistic setting. This new simulator is the second of its kind for the company, following the first one that was launched in Manila in December 2025, thus establishing dedicated training resources in two crucial locations for its global maritime workforce.
The simulator is designed to replicate realistic vessel, crane, and ballast operations, enabling crews to practice intricate scenarios in a controlled environment. This setup allows for repeated training of operational procedures, which is essential for preparing teams for specialized cargo and heavy-lift projects. By providing a safe space for practice, the simulator enhances the readiness and skills of maritime personnel.
Utilizing MARIN’s Dolphin software, the simulator accurately mimics vessel motions caused by waves, currents, and wind in real-time, closely reflecting actual sea conditions. This level of realism ensures that crews are well-prepared for the challenges they may face during real-world operations, reinforcing Spliethoff’s commitment to safety and operational excellence in the maritime industry.
