A Marine Electrician Apprentice from South Hampshire College Group, Daniel Hodges, has been nominated for the ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award at the 2026 Maritime Solent Awards. The 22-year-old recently completed a four-year Level 3 apprenticeship, commuting weekly from London to Southampton. His dedication to his studies is evident, as he achieved Distinction grades across all subjects while delivering exceptional work for his employer, The Electric Boat Company.
To celebrate the nominations, all finalists attended a special reception where they could connect with colleagues and mentors. Hodges’ achievement has been recognized as a testament to his hard work and potential as a Marine Electrical Engineer. His commitment to balancing work and study has been impressive, especially given the travel involved in his weekly commutes.
